There are a total of 25 public banks and 21 private sector banks in India. Due to this high demand, a lot of aspirants find it difficult to land in a banking job of their desire. So let us see what are the main eligibility criteria to apply for a banking sector job

Eligibility criteria for Banks Jobs in India

If you are a graduate, there are two main positions available for you amongst the other

  1. Clerical – These jobs include the post of a clerk, clerk-cum-cashier, stenographer, data entry operators, telephone operators, etc.
  2. Probationary Officer – These jobs are where the candidates are selected under probation. Their performance will be analysed during the training period and then be hired for various posts

Eligibility criteria for a Clerk

  • Nationality – Indian Citizen
  • Age Limit – 18 Years to 28 Years
  • Education Qualification – Completed +2 along with graduation
    In some banks, a diploma degree is also acceptable. For such cases, the candidate must be below the age of 25

In public sector banks, the average salary for an entry-level clerk is Rs. 1,40,000/- per annum along with other incentives.

Eligibility criteria for a Probationary Officer (PO)

  • Nationality – Indian Citizen
  • Age Limit – 21 Years to 30 Years
  • Education Qualification – Must have a bachelor’s degree
    Must have good knowledge of computers, especially MS Office

For public sector banks, the average salary for an entry-level clerk is Rs. 2,00,000/- per annum along with other incentives.

Government banks hire graduates and postgraduates through an entrance exam. Private sector banks and foreign banks hire candidates through direct selections and professional candidates like lawyers, engineers, CFAs and MBAs.

Examinations for Government Banks Jobs in India

There are four institutes in India that give candidates an opportunity to get selected in one of the government banks in India. Cracking these exams gets you a step closer to your dream job. The 4 institutes are:

  • The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS)
  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
  • The State Bank of India (SBI)
  • National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD)
